Technologies for better decisions in complex situations.

  1. Capture
  2. Connect
  3. Understand
  4. Act

Complex situations demand fast, well-founded decisions. DroneCorps brings together research, technology and entrepreneurship, putting innovative solutions to use in a wide range of operational areas.

The Challenge

Many systems. Vast amounts of data. No overview.

The demands of operations are changing. Autonomous systems, new sensors and a growing variety of data open up new possibilities and new challenges. What is needed are solutions that take operations management further, for the complex situations of tomorrow.

We solve a data, resource and coordination problem and put a wide range of systems to use.

Scenarios

Aerial view of a forest valley with a river bed and access road

Wildfire

Where is the seat of the fire, and where is the fire spreading? On the initial reconnaissance, the drone shows the seat of the fire and the access routes from above. During the operation, thermal sensors make the fire front visible even through smoke. On the follow-up inspection, the AI detects hidden embers and hotspots.

Flooding

Drone imagery, map data, crew observations: the information exists but is spread across different systems. Only when merged does it become a picture of the situation.

Search & Rescue

Mountain rescue and avalanche search under time pressure. Thermal image, geographic position and the operational decision belong together. Automatic detection of people from thermal and RGB data supports the search.

The Platform

One platform. One operational picture.

With Lagebild.one, we contribute to better decisions in the field: a platform for geo- and time-oriented operations management. It merges data from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), sensors and crews into a common operational picture: the shared view every unit works from.

The platform can be deployed flexibly as a cloud, on-premise or hybrid solution and remains reliably available even with limited internet connectivity.

A base version has already been demonstrated in a series of operational exercises.

Capabilities

Picture

Digital operational picture

A web-based common operational picture for command, a mobile app for crews in the field. All relevant information visualised in one place, in near real time.

Mapping

Mapping

Georeferenced orthophotos, meaning aerial images corrected to map geometry, for precise mapping of operational areas in near real time.

Analysis

AI-powered analysis

Automatic detection of people, vehicles and hazards such as fire, embers and hotspots from thermal and RGB data. The AI is continuously developed further. Decisions stay with command.

Integration

System integration

Vendor-independent integration of drones and further sensor and data sources. Integrations and interfaces are continuously extended.

The platform grows from a digital operational picture into an open system for coordinating crews and autonomous systems.

Austria as a mark of quality

Research, development and testing in Austria. Origin as a reliable mark of quality for demanding operational environments.

Network

Research. Technology. Entrepreneurship. Operations.

An Austrian network from research, technology, entrepreneurship and practice is bringing innovations for intelligent operations management to market maturity. Each partner takes on a clearly defined role.

Research & technological development

JOANNEUM RESEARCH

One of Austria’s largest non-university research institutions with more than 500 experts and many years of experience in applied research and technology transfer. This is where the technologies originated.

Technological & operational implementation

Lagebild.one

Lagebild.one transforms the technology that emerged from research into a market-ready digital platform and develops it further for practical use together with response organisations.

Real-world application & testing

Response organisations

Fire services, civil protection and other response organisations are the central users. Their requirements and testing under real or near-operational conditions form the basis for further development.

Enabler and entrepreneurial partner

DroneCorps

DroneCorps combines technology know-how with many years of entrepreneurial experience and creates the conditions for technologies with real societal and economic benefit to move from research into practical application and scale.
